TRAINING & RECRUITMENT
To meet the constantly growing requirement of the
Industry, IIMT hosts an in-house training division,
with well-equipped staff, continuously advertising
for fresh candidates, who are individually tested
for their prerequisite capabilities. Selected candidates
are intensively trained in the Live-Job environment.

TRAINING PROCESS
There are some laid down 'minimum
eligibility standards' set for the entry level of the training
program. The eligibility criteria are: a certified Graduation
degree (preferably in the Life Sciences stream), fluency in
the English language with profound listening skills as the
primary parameters. |

|
| |
Prior to admission, aspirants
are expected to demonstrate through pre-enrollment tests or
counseling, their capability for satisfactorily pursuing the
prescribed training from beginning to completion of the course
during the time allotted. This includes thorough counseling
in the first place to make them aware of the field and the
dedication required in the profession, which prepares them
to a tough phase of training program. The interested student,
mainly convent educated and preferably graduates are chosen
and given a series of Entrance Tests, which includes: |

The first test will be written
test on English that includes 4 subdivisions to test the aspirant’s
English knowledge, for 100 marks.

| 1st |
Subdivision
includes testing on Basic grammar features
such as Normal Sentence Pattern in English, The Noun
Phrase, The Verb Phrase (Tense and Aspects), Subject-Verb
Agreement, Verbs as Complements, Affirmative Agreement,
Negative Agreement etc., which carries 25 Marks. |
| 2nd |
Subdivision includes
testing on Structure and written expression,
wherein incomplete sentence with four objective phrases
are given, the phrase that best completes the sentence
should be chosen by the candidate. This testing carries
25 Marks.

| 3rd |
Subdivision
includes testing on Problem vocabulary and prepositions
- Commonly misused words. Ex: Decent
/ descent. This section carries 25 queries and 25
Marks. |
| 4th |
Subdivision includes
Reading comprehension that comprises
of 2 passages. Each one is followed by 25 questions
about it. The candidate is expected to choose the
one best answer, (A), (B), (C), or (D) to each question,
following the passage on the basis of what is stated
or implied in that passage. This section carries 25
Marks.

The aspirant is expected to score atleast 20 marks in each
section to get through the test and to be eligible for the
second phase of Entrance test.
The Second phase is about Listening skills of a candidate.
A voice file of an American origin is played on the computer
and asked to “transcribe” the same in MS WORD.
This testing enables us to decide on the aspirant’s
ability to pickup on the Medical Transcription.
A final interview will be conducted for those who are through
all these tests.
IIMT's selection criterion helps students to fully understand
what is being expected from a trained medical transcriptionist.
Each program is so scheduled to help the students to reach
their desired level of knowledge. We believe our approach
makes learning a lot more fun and frolic.

IIMT
programs use the highly acclaimed system unit method
(SUM) tapes, dictation tapes from Production Unit, to
train them on-the-job environment of Medical transcription. |

In addition, a combination
of coursework and actual dictation with supplementary
reading and written assignments enables students to
apply what they are learning in actual transcription.

COURSE CURRICULUM |
|
| |
After
the entry level, the training period in the Company
spans 4 months. As a part of the training process, knowledge
of Medical terminology in different medical specializations
is imparted. Sound grip of English grammar along with
typing skills, practice sessions at transcribing reports
of different medical specialties, and different types
of reports are taught.
Apart from the regular curriculum, sincere efforts are
made to improve professional etiquettes such as punctuality,
regularity, and reliability are inculcated in them.

Classroom training includes
Study and Exercise on a workbook titled 'Language Of Medicine'.
This covers the anatomical and physiological terms of the
human body, important vocabulary, specific prefixes and suffixes,
pathological conditions, clinical & laboratory procedures
of the respective system are taught. The various stages of
infection in a diseased human body are also mentioned. |

Before the commencement
of the subject classes, an overview of the Medical transcription
Profession is given in the MIND SET SESSION, which will be
for a period of 1 week with following concepts in mind. |

Emphasis on building
a working medical vocabulary. The text introduces the
prefixes, suffixes, root words, combining forms, Latin
and Greek forms, spelling and pronunciation of medical
terminology. |

Anatomy / Physiology:
This study will assist you to correctly spell, label,
and define these structures. A comprehensive and detailed
study of the design and function of the different structures
in the human body. |
 |
Medical Science/Human
Disease Processes: A comprehensive study of medical
history and the physical examination in addition to
symptoms, signs, and diagnostic measures. These texts
increase your understanding of medical cause and effect
in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology,
disease processes, and lab procedures. |
 |
Pharmacology: Emphasis
on building a working pharmacological vocabulary. The
texts introduce the principles of pharmacology and study
of drug interaction, routes of administration, classes
of drugs by body system, antibiotics, antiviral drugs,
IV fluids, blood products, chemotherapy agents, etc., |

Laboratory Medicine:
A comprehensive study of pathology, radiology and laboratory
tests and procedures. The text includes gross and microscopic
descriptions of specimens, detailed cell structures,
names and descriptions of laboratory and radiology tests
and procedures, and how they are used to diagnose disease
processes. |

English / Medical
Grammar & Editing: A review of Medical and English
grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills. The texts
also provide rules for abbreviations, capitalization,
and numbers in medicine. Emphasis is given specifically
for American English punctuation. |

Medico-legal Concepts
& Ethics / Professional Development: Emphasis on
building professionalism and an introduction to legal
issues. These texts include information on professional
standards of conduct, confidentiality of medical records,
production standards, resume preparation, job opportunities,
compensation range and employee benefits, interview
skills, professional association membership, certification,
stress management and other related topics. |

A review of Medical
& English grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
This also provides rules for abbreviations, capitalization’s
and numbers in medicine. Emphasis is given specifically
for American English punctuation. |

Transcription of authentic
physician-dictated reports with emphasis on 99.4% accuracy,
accompanied with speed and medical knowledge. Examples
of health care records (letters, chart notes, histories
and physicals, consultations, emergency room reports,
operative notes, discharge summaries, laboratory reports,
diagnostic studies, radiology and pathology reports)
increase the student's knowledge of medical record formats,
styles, and standards are inculcated in the student
through this section. |

Candidates trained at INNOVATIONS are exposed
to numerous BMT and AMT files of SUM Program and 'Dead'
files in the first 3 months. The trainees are subsequently
introduced to transcribing live dictations from the 3rd
month onwards.

ASSESSMENT
Assessment procedure at IIMT is unbiased and unique. As
part of the assessment procedure, weekly tests, assignments
and intensive exercises on each chapter are given. Performance
is appraised and a feedback is provided to the trainees
on day-to-day basis, so that a constant monitoring helps
in great measures in the progress of each trainee. In the
crucial span of 3rd and 4th month, the trainees are required
to spend their entire study time practicing transcription
work. Everyday, the trainee's transcription skills are tested,
keeping 'speed' and 'accuracy rate' as the prime parameters.
Training is imparted intensively till the trainee achieves
a minimum capability of transcribing 250 - 350 lines per
day with an accuracy standard of 90 % in an 8 hourly shift.

During the mentioned
procedures of performance appraisal, in case the trainee is
not able to meet the set criteria of perfection in transcription
skills, the trainee is thereafter declared disqualified as
per the Company laws.
A qualified MT from IIMT is a breed apart with Excellent keyboard

Ability to understand the American accent, Good knowledge
of Medical terminology, Commitment to the profession, Trained
